Contemporary poetry is a diverse and constantly evolving genre that encompasses a wide range of styles, themes, and forms. In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in poetry, with many poets using their work to explore social, political, and personal issues. One of the defining characteristics of contemporary poetry is its focus on the individual experience. Many contemporary poets write about their own lives and emotions, using poetry as a means of self-expression.

A Failed Nation
The symptoms are more clear now
The centre can no longer hold
Our nation is at deathbed
The nation is failing
Corrutption is the new normal
In some quarters even formal
Being honest is now abnormal
The nation is failing
Integrity is no longer desired
But rather openly disdained
"Our time to eat" is glorified
The nation is failing
Amorphous and ficticious projects
Man made shortages and conflicts
Have been the government edicts
The nation is failing

Retrogressive Politics
The politics waved across the nation
They were the politics of domination
Packaged in pleasing communication
To conquer the entire population
Aspiring promises were well articulated
With manifestos designed and decorated
Their minds and hearts got converted
Goods things were to come once voted
Five years later, things remain the same
New promises are given without shame
Hopelessly they wait for the right time
For the project to be given a name
Another term, more mundane promises
Promises about their initial promises
But all we see is upgrade of their premises
And their hopes suddenly diminishes
They were the politics of domination
Packaged in pleasing communication
To conquer the entire population
Aspiring promises were well articulated
With manifestos designed and decorated
Their minds and hearts got converted
Goods things were to come once voted
Five years later, things remain the same
New promises are given without shame
Hopelessly they wait for the right time
For the project to be given a name
Another term, more mundane promises
Promises about their initial promises
But all we see is upgrade of their premises
And their hopes suddenly diminishes

Fallacy of The HandShake.
They majestically walked to the podium
Grinning as though high on opium
At last they had reached a medium
For rebuilding the broken unity
A well articulated speech was read
Very captivating to the last thread
A moment of calm and peace spread
Maybe all we needed was a handshake!
The narrative took 360 degrees turn
"We'll not let the bridges to ever burn"
"We must embrace love and shun spurn"
They said!As they firmly shook hands.
A message of hope engulfed the nation
It was time to end the political commotion
And concentrate with unifying the nation
Which badly need hope and restoration.
But Alas! Here we are... months later
We still, for sure, don't know any better
Whether the handshake really matter
Or it was just another political batter
Empty rhetoric is the order of the day
Even for supply of air,in millions we pay
Then congregate in breakfast to pray
Pray for corruption among us not to stay
Public and roadside declarations are issued
Tough calls for the corrupt to be pursued
But at the end our taxes are misused
Will we ever get justice?

bRoKeN HUMANITY
Look around and all you see is vanity
Man is busy running away from reality
Misguided teaching on true christianity
Fruits of Broken Humanity
Truth and Justice no longer matter
Intergrity remain in the 6th chapter
Justice goes where the check is fatter
Fruits of Broken Humanity
Everyone is chasing for a deal
It doesn't matter if they steal
To hell with what's fair and ideal
Fruits of Broken Huanity

INSPIRED
I am a walking billionaire
Always running up the stair
Constantly fighting despair
Life shouldn't be unfair
I walk when i dont have fare
Even on the fashion fair
With elegance and flare
To the top I must appear
Im on number one gear
Nothing will stop my stear
To the utmost glare
Of becoming a billionaire

MONEY
As an occassion of the deception
A creation of our own emotion
That money can bring redemption
And salvation from eternal damnation
This is the nature of true deception
No matter how ideal the perception
For this confused digital generation
A consequence of lack of self reflection
In the quest of our true identification
There is only but one final destination
That nature has never offered objection
And neither can we offer obstruction
Say "fate and destiny affair" combination
Powerful fusion to an inevitable occassion

KENYA POLITICIANS
They come with elaborate manuals
Claiming to know how to protect our financials
Little do we know they're ficticious appraisals
These are Kenyan politicians
With convincing words they make empty promises
Promises on how they will make better houses
They make us believe they're the better choices
But after the vote become deaf to our voices
These are kenyan politicians

Bright Night
In the lonely night
Way past midnight
I think of our plight
That's beyond sight
Things have become tight
There seem to be no light
Even when birds lack flight
Sure,we must keep the fight
We must stand for what's right
No one should take our birthright
For our freedom we're forthright
If we must, then we shall fight
We must emancipate us from freight
For the future is and must be bright
Never again should we live in hindsight
When we have been blessed with foresight

Let's Get Out

Keyboard activism and agitation
The biggest fallacy in our generation.
It's absurd we twit about corruption
And miraculously wait for a conviction
They call it a rant over social media
When they gag the mainstream media
With malicious allegation of a militia
That apparently congregate in stadia
We yearn for meaningful change.
But they find our new ideas strange
So they refuse to even engage
And opposers forcibly put in a cage
We must make consciuos decisions
To take action against all invasions
Let's ensure we have tree plantations
And save earth for future generations

SLAVERY IN A FREE WORLD
Whats worse than being a slave in a free world
Having no control of the choices that you make
Where you are just a statistics to those in power
Your life being controlled by the people you trusted
What's worse than being a slave in a free world
A world where you cannot criticize injustices
Because you'll be against one of your own
Yet you're suffering and wallowing in poverty
What's worse than being a slave in a free world
A slave to your political views and choices
Where you've thrown conscience far away
Together with humanity and basic intellect
What's worse than being a slave in a free world
Where they embezzles our taxes and we keep quiet
Because they tell us we share a common tribe
They publicly insult us: Kenyans forget easily!
What's worse than being a slave in a free world
Where political indifference become treasonable
And goons ride helicopters to build mud schools
Since its free education,we accept anything
What's worse than being a slave in a free world
Where laws and the constitution are abused
And guranteed freedoms become privildges
Yet we claim to be a progressive democracy

DESPOTS
The writing is on the wall
The tyrants must and will fall
And sooner than next fall
For justice we must stand tall
We resist anything short of justice
When we've had such good practice
Never should we ignore the sacrifice
Dictatorships must be put to furnace
This freedom ain't a priviledge
Many patriots were put in a cage
For us to have this free stage
Where we can all freely engage
This is a message to the despots
We now have all the reports
Of your evil destructive plots
But we the people call the shots
You must pay for your transgressions
You know crime has repercusions
The consequence of your decisions
There is no mercy for your violations
We gave you the benefit of doubt
But You thought we were daft
So arrogantly you continued your theft
But time is over now, you must be dealt

Graduation Day
Finally, the day has come
On this moment we beckon
And with gratitude reckon
Upon the unforgettable experiences
This, just but a beginning
As we continue grinding
Purposefully, and joyfully fulfilling
Knowledge thirst quenching.
As you look to the future
There is no measure
Of the exposure
You’ve gained at School
With all best wishes and prayers
I urge to never listen to naysayers
But be the best of players
In this game called life.

HONEST CONVERSATIONS
This is the time for honest conversations
We all must engage without reservations
And strife to end these constentations
Before we plunge into self destruction
The optune moment is now
When we're all in the know
That, this is the wrong flow
We can't afford to go so low
Human decency is God given
Our attrocities even forgiven
Yet we seem inhumanly driven
With our conciousness frozen
We call ourselves progressive
Yet our actions are retrogressive
Loaded with evil possessive
Depicting outright oppressive
Woe unto ye who are silent
When transgressions so salient
And think you're more important
Bewarned, you're just ignorrant
They said we have short memories
And we foolishly believed their stories
Today we have no remedies
As we fear be portrayed as allies
They've turned intellectuals to zombies
Who just regurgitate tribal bigotries
To promote and maintain societal follies
Rather than transform to modern societies
Wake up! Ye of sound heart and mind
Speak up for the sake of humanity
Speak up for the future generations
Speak up for yourselves
