Self-Control

Self-control, a virtue to behold,

A strength to keep the soul from getting cold,

To reign in impulses that run wild,

And choose a path that's gentle, meek, and mild.

The Bible speaks of this trait so dear,

It teaches us to control our fear,

To master our desires and our tongue,

And walk the path of righteousness, among.

In Proverbs, we read of self-control,

A jewel that's worth more than gold,

For it brings peace to a troubled heart,

And guides the soul to a brand-new start.

Paul, too, spoke of this noble trait,

And urged us to practice it, before it's late,

For it leads to a life that's pure and true,

A life that's pleasing to God, anew.

Self-control, a fruit of the Spirit,

A gift that brings us joy and merit,

So let us practice it, day by day,

And let our light shine, in every way.
